History and Info on Hatch

Hatch, itself, is a very colorful town. The farmers have dealt with drought, winds and floods. Although, with tenacity and resilience, they've defeated weather with the help of the Rio Grande, making it a green desert!

Surrounding Area Attractions

Locally, we have ghost towns, hot springs in Truth or Consequences, NM, Spaceport of America, Elephant Butte Reservoir, Gila Cliff Dwellings, Ft. Thorn Ruins, Old Mesilla in Las Cruces, NM, Las Palomas Mexico (need passport), Bosque Wildlife Refuge, White Sands, wineries, The Very Large Array (a radio astronomy observatory as seen in the movie Contact, with Jodie Foster), There is also a new movie coming out called "Rose" with James Brolin and Cybill Shephard that was made in Truth or Consequences, NM!

Dark Skies

  • We have beautiful bright skies here and can enjoy looking at the stars but I did not know that for those who enjoy studying the skies like astronomy buffs this is the place. Go to: darksky.org/idsp/ It has lots of info plus a scale showing where the skies are the darkest and we are a #2, cities are a #9. So watching meteor showers here are great.

There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy!
